Before...
Prepping involved...tightening the bolts with a wrench. Quickly sanding the wood with my orbital sander to remove any dirt, etc and make sure there are no sharp edges.
Then I quickly
glazed the bolts with an oil rubbed bronze spray paint so they wouldn't
stand out too much.
I started by staining the wood with Minwax brand "Dark Walnut"
I think I've read that you are supposed to condition wood before staining it. However I don't have any wood conditioner so I thought I'd go ahead and try it without.
I think it turned out pretty good!
I purchased a 3/4" wide rope by the foot from Lowe's. (57 cents a foot) and got 25 feet.
It was just barely enough!
I attached the rope using my pneumatic stapler and air compressor. However, your basic heavy duty stapler should work just fine!
I finished the stain with Minwax Paste Finishing Wax
There's no telling if I use this wax the "right" way, but I hate polyurethane and the glossy look you get or the mess it makes! The finishing wax gives it a protective coat while keeping the rough, rustic feel of a craft like this!
The icing on the cake was adding three caster wheels on the bottom for a complete look!
The holes and dings just add to it's one of a kind character!
You can own this one of a kind spool table for a fraction of the price! I'm selling my creation for only $65! If you're interested please contact me at jenniferleible@gmail.com
